Pattern Features:

The Woodland Wanderer is the perfect coat for your woodland adventures!  It is designed to use buttons or toggles, with either loops or button holes. The back can have a curved or straight hem. There is an option for a large patch pocket. It is possible to make the coat reversible.  The construction of this coat is not complicated making it a great option if you’re looking for your first coat pattern.

Fabric Recommendations:

Outer Fabric: Medium/Heavy woven fabric, preferably with some stretch or ‘give’, but zero stretch is fine. Eg. wool blends, corduroy, tweed etc.
Inner Fabric – Anything thick and warm! Eg. sherpa, teddy, short pile faux fur, fleece etc. You can choose to use a thinner fabric for your lining, but the resulting fit will be different – your finished coat will appear 1/2 to 1 size larger, particularly across the width.
If you would like pockets you will need a small amount (maximum 20cm) of a thinner, lining material. Dress lining, satin, quilting cotton or even jersey would be suitable.

Notions:

If you would like loop closure then you need matching cord.
You will need buttons or toggles. You can choose any number. The style of this coat works well with large buttons. I would recommend not going any smaller than 20mm for baby/toddler sizes and 30mm for larger sizes. You can go as large as you dare!

Sizes:

0-3 months – Age 12

Enthusiastic Beginner
